Jersey leads major gambling conference

Wednesday 06 May 2015

The Chief Executive of the Jersey Gambling Commission is leading a major European conference for gambling regulators in Lithuania this week.

Dr Jason Lane is the current chairman of the Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) who are holding their annual event in Vilnius. Around 70 gambling regulators from around Europe are expected to attend the three-day event, along with delegates from Singapore and the Cape Verde islands.

Dr Lane said: “These opportunities are a great opportunity to talk to other regulators, and learn from what is going on around the world.

“As a small jurisdiction, the chance to talk directly to regulators from countries such as Sweden, Belgium and Holland – as well as the UK, with whom we have close links – is particularly valuable.

“The rising popularity of online and mobile gambling, and recent instances of match-fixing in sport, mean that the challenges facing gambling regulators are changing and evolving. It is only by talking to colleagues around the world that we can stay fully-informed and engaged with the latest trends.”

Dr Lane will be making the opening speech at the conference, moderating a discussion among regulators on the first day of the event, and will be introducing sessions on anti-money laundering, suspicious activity reports and match-fixing.
