Les Quennevais still closed after 10 days as power fault probe continues

Friday 19 April 2024

Les Quennevais Sports Centre is likely to remain closed until the end of the month as investigations into problems with its power supply continue.

The St Brelade facility has been closed for 10 days following a problem with the power supply that led to the sudden closure of the main building.

On Friday afternoon, sports centre staff said that work has already started to correct some of the technical faults, but that investigations into what caused them remain ongoing.

"The whole building will need to remain closed to the public until investigations have been completed and we know which areas are safe to open," Active said in a statement.

"We hope to reopen some areas on Monday 29 April, subject to these getting the "all clear" from the engineering team.

"We are able to confirm, however, that this will not include the pools, sauna and steam, and is unlikely to include the first-floor gym in the first stages, as circuits that service those areas need to be replaced.

The Government said that the cost of the remedial work so far was currently unknown when asked by Express. They were also unable to confirm the exact nature of the power supply issue.

While the centre remains closed, it was confirmed last week that activity in the surrounding club buildings and playing fields is able to continue as normal.

Alternative lane swimming sessions were made available to book at Langford, and group fitness classes were been moved to alternative facilities at Langford and Springfield.
