Primary school teacher Louise Doublet is running for Deputy in St Saviour No 2.

Ms Doublet is the secretary for the Jersey division of teaching union NUT, and is running for one of the two seats in the district which covers the Five Oaks and Grands Vaux areas.

The sitting Deputies are Transport Minister Kevin Lewis and Deputy Tracey Vallois, who is moving to stand in St John.

Ms Doublet said: “My work with children, families, teachers and other States sector workers has led me to this decision.

“I want to make a difference to the lives of children and I know that by using my insight and experience on the ground, I can assist in future policy making at a critical time for education, health and social policy.

“Children and families need a voice in the States and I will be there to speak up for them.”

She also said that she was concerned about mental health issues, saying it was better to address issues before they became overwhelming to people and their families.

Ms Doublet’s candidacy has been endorsed by Deputy Vallois, who said she had strong social values.

The Deputy said: “She has the commitment and drive to not only fulfil the role of Deputy of St Saviour District 2, but also play an important part in developing future policies in the States through her experience with education.”

The election takes place on October 15th, and those elected will serve a three-and-a-half year term.
