LibertyBus issues advice for passengers and staff

MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

At LibertyBus, we take the health and well-being of our passengers and staff extremely seriously and share everyone’s concerns over Coronavirus and how it will affect Islanders.

The bus service plays an essential role in Island life and although we are in difficult times we have a duty to continue to support our local community and economy. For us, that means continuing to transport people around the Island to access essential services, to get to work, to school and to visit friends and family.

In order for us to maintain a reliable service we have chosen to continue to operate our Winter timetable and not implement our Spring timetable on 30 March as planned.

Please be reassured that the service will run as normal for now but we will be continually monitoring the situation and will advise you of any further changes over the coming weeks.

There is understandably a lot of concern about using public transport at this time so we wanted to let you know what we’re doing to protect our passengers and staff against the Coronavirus:

  • It is our regular procedure to clean all our vehicles nightly and deep clean them weekly so this is continuing as normal.
  • On top of that we have implemented regular additional cleans throughout the day focusing on places that are touched most often (the drivers cab, ticket machines, handles, seat backs and call buttons).
  • Liberation Station is also being cleaned more frequently.
  • We will prominently display Government issued advice posters on buses and around the station.
  • We ensure that all of our staff follow Government guidelines and best practice in relation to hygiene and self isolation.

Our advice to passengers is:

  • Please use contactless payments where possible, we are still accepting cash should passengers have no alternative.
  • Please remain vigilant with hand washing and hygiene before using our services and be aware that there may be more vulnerable passengers around you.
  • Please do not travel if you have recently returned from Europe or Eurasia or if you are experiencing flu like symptoms.
  • If you are over 65 it is recommended by Government that you maintain social distancing so it is advised that you do not travel at peak times which is before 09:00 and between 16:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday.
