AquaSplash pledges 'clear as water' transparency on eco progress

Aquasplash has unveiled a plan to cut down its carbon and energy use, and is pledging to keep the public informed about its green progress.

This week, Serco Leisure, which operates the pool, announced its new ‘Maintaining a Fitter Future’ initiative in partnership with the Government of Jersey.

The initiative will see the business provide customers with regular updates detailing everything being done to stay environmentally friendly – via a noticeboard on-site and a dedicated web page.

The physical and digital checklists will include an environmental five-year plan for the centre, its energy usage certificate, a carbon reduction plan, as well as details of any biodiversity projects happening around the AquaSplash.

In its first online update, the company explains that it will be examining at the operation of its buildings and looking to reduce business travel ahead of a greater push for carbon reduction between 2025 and 2030.

The swimming pool operator says it has already introduced Office 365 “to enable colleagues, where possible, to work from home, therefore reducing the need for travel” and has implemented certified Energy Management System ‘ISO50001’.

It adds: “We have an employee engagement programme to encourage and celebrate local environmental and carbon improvements. Our Green Ambassadors promote environmental and carbon responsible behaviours and work practices. Our UK mainland sites have already switched to almost 100% renewable electricity. We have introduced electric and hybrid vehicle options for our company car and small commercial vehicle fleet.”

Hugh Raymond, Assistant Minister for Sport, said: “I’m delighted to see AquaSplash introducing this new initiative, which highlights how the Government of Jersey and the facility operator Serco are working together to ensure a greener future for leisure facilities.

“Customers are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of environmental issues in every area of life, so it’s important for the leisure sector to show transparency in how sites are operated from a green perspective.”

Serco Leisure's Environment Manager Lee Clarkson added: “Maintaining a Fitter Future is our way of showing a genuine environmental commitment to customers and staff, giving them a clear roadmap towards a greener future for leisure centres. I’d like to thank Hugh Raymond, and Aquasplash Contract Manager Faye Camp and her team for backing this initiative.”
