A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the Jersey Data Protection Authority and the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General to "forge closer cooperation".
Under the agreement, Jersey's independent data regulator and the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) will share information they deem to be of mutual interest that will inform decision-making, minimise risk and improve the effectiveness of their respective duties.
The MoU is an "agreed framework" for an "effective working relationship", the signed document reads. It adds that the agreement is not enforceable by law and does not place extra responsibilities on either party outside of their statuary responsibilities.
The document also lists four principles of the intended working relationship – these being: "a proactive approach", "open and transparent", "efficient and effective communication", and "maintaining and enhancing confidence of Islanders and the States Assembly".
Reviewed each year, the MoU will involve meetings taking place on a "at least" a biannual basis. The agreement also states that "appropriate security measures" will be in place regarding the safety of sharing confidential information.
Information Commissioner Paul Vane said he was "delighted" with the new partnership.
“We are delighted to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General which forges closer cooperation between our organisations," he said.
