Jeremy Garrood has been promoted to "of counsel" in Carey Olsen’s Jersey office, adding to the weight of the firm's global litigation team.
Advocate Garrood is an experienced offshore practitioner who has worked in Bermuda, the Caribbean and the Channel Islands. He joined Carey Olsen in 2012 and represents a range of clients who require trust, insolvency and commercial litigation advice, while also specialising in complex cross-border company law cases.
As a litigator Jeremy has experience of complex corporate disputes. He is currently instructed by a global hospitality group in on-going cross-border franchise litigation, he is advising in a Jersey unfair prejudice dispute contesting ownership of a Caucasian gold mine and on a BVI derivative action relating to Norwegian oil-drilling technology.
He also has strong insolvency and restructuring experience, particularly dealing with multi-jurisdictional insolvencies, asset recovery/tracing and receivership. He sits on the Executive Committee of the Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Experts and this year he has been a Panel Member at the INSOL International European Seminar. He is the only Jersey lawyer recognised in Who's Who Legal: Insurance & Reinsurance 2014.
Led by 12 partners, Carey Olsen's litigation practice across the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey is one of the largest offshore litigation teams. It advises on the full spectrum of advisory, semi-contentions and contentious work and the Jersey contingent was recently 'commended' in the dispute resolution category of the 2014 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers report.
The firm's chairman and head of litigation, John Kelleher, said: “International litigation, dispute resolution, restructuring and insolvency work is increasing and Carey Olsen is consistently instructed, not least because of our collective ability to field cross-border legal matters.
“Jeremy’s promotion is a reflection of his significant contribution to the practice and the depth of his expertise across these disciplines.”
