Oben Law has appointed Lydia Emery as a senior associate, while Jonathan Van Neste has joined as a manager supporting the regulatory team.
Ms Emery, who qualified as an English Solicitor in August 2017, previously worked at another Jersey law firm advising professional trustees, intermediaries and private clients on the establishment and ongoing operation of trusts, foundations, private trust companies, family companies and other private wealth structures. She is also experienced in related corporate law and regulatory matters affecting offshore structures and service providers.
She will work closely with Advocate David Wilson advising local and international financial services business, law firms and accountancy firms on a range of contentious matters.
Mr Van Neste is a qualified non-practising Jersey Solicitor with 10 years' experience assisting and advising on offshore legislation. He previously worked for the Attorney General's office advising the Government of Jersey on the development of legislation, with particular focus on areas relating to the digital economy, competition and financial services.
This included legislation relating to mergers and acquisitions, the creation of Jersey's data protection framework for GDPR adequacy, charitable and non-charitable purpose trusts, and financial services legislation required for Jersey's FATF compliance.
He also recently worked as a Senior Policy Officer of the Financial Services and Digital Economy team within Jersey's Economic Development Department as the emerging technology lead where he led or assisted on the development of legislative and non-legislative initiatives relating to areas of the digital economy and FinTech including matters of electronic communication, utilising trust and foundation structures for data stewardship services, eKYC solutions for AML/CFT compliance and virtual asset regulation.
