Law At Work - the Channel Islands’ leading human resources, employee relations and health and safety specialist - is holding a free workshop in Jersey on Friday 1 July covering how the UK’s exit from the EU could affect employment and discrimination laws and regulations.
The workshop will be particularly relevant to businesses with a UK link, although Brexit will also indirectly affect Jersey-based firms. It will be led by Martin Buckland, Managing Director of Law At Work’s new UK-based sister company, HR At Work.
It will be held from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm at the Pomme d’Or Hotel. Earlier in the day, Law At Work will be holding a free breakfast briefing on new age discrimination legislation, which will come into force in Jersey in September.
Mr Buckland said: “Clearly the UK’s decision to leave the EU will have far-reaching implications, including their laws and regulations governing employment and discrimination – many of which have been shaped by EU policy and directive. After our breakfast briefing, we were already planning to hold a number of training sessions but given the significance of last Thursday’s referendum, it made obvious sense to discuss Brexit with employers at the earliest possible opportunity.
“We will offer some views and points of note to employers on how the UK’s departure from the EU could impact UK and, indirectly, Jersey employment and discrimination legislation. We would encourage all employers, whether they have a UK link or not, to attend this free session as Jersey’s relationship with the EU will no longer be governed by Protocol 3 of the UK’s Treaty of Accession.”
