Hungry Islanders can now order their food online or via a smartphone with the launch of a new takeaway delivery service by food.je
Customers can now log on to the website www.food.je and choose from a range of restaurant and menu options before paying by card or Paypal. Orders are then instantly forwarded to the restaurant and a text or email confirmation sent to the customer advising them how long their food will be.
The new service, which launched in June, has now expanded to around 20 restaurants and food providers, offering over 3,500 meal choices online. Businesses that opt in to the service are given a two-way communication device that allows online orders to be processed in their respective locations and the food is then delivered Islandwide.
Alex Malet de Carteret, one of the co-founders of food.je, said their key target audience was the internet savvy generation – those aged 18 to 35 years.
“Everything they do is pretty much online now. That’s what we’re going for with respect to our target audience,” he said.
“Being first in the door allows us the freedom to rapidly expand in the local online marketplace.”
