Hat-trick of awards for Ormer

Thursday 04 September 2014

Chef Shaun Rankin and the Ormer restaurant team are celebrating after receiving a trio of international accolades.

On Tuesday Ormer scooped Best Newcomer at the Food and Travel Magazine Awards 2014 in London against tough competition, including renowned celebrity hotspot The Chiltern Firehouse.

Ormer was the only restaurant outside London to make the shortlist. Mr Rankin attended the ceremony, which also saw accolades for an array of Britain’s top talent including Sat Bains, Tom Kerridge and Jason Atherton.

Gregor Rankin, publisher of  Food and Travel Magazine, said: "Being shortlisted in the Food and Travel Awards means that you are the best of the best. Winning just means you’re that little bit better than the best!"

Also on Tuesday, the AA announced  that Ormer is one of only three establishments shortlisted for the AA Food Service Award, which will be decided at a gala ceremony in London on 22 September. The hat-trick was completed with Ormer by Shaun Rankin gaining an extra point in the Waitrose Good Food Guide to become one of the top two places to eat in the Channel Islands.

Mr Rankin, said: "It’s absolutely fantastic to be honoured through these accreditations and it’s down to the dedication of my entire team and the support we have received from our diners. To win Best Newcomer at the Food and Travel Reader Awards is very special for us and the international recognition will benefit both us and the Island. Food tourism is an expanding area for Jersey and I intend to be at the forefront of this movement. It’s exciting times and I am so grateful that Ormer has been so warmly received. We will not rest on our laurels; this is only the beginning for Ormer, the SR brand and my fantastic team."
