Jersey Hospice Care has introduced a new development programme called ‘Grow Your Own’ for Band 5 nurses in specialist palliative care.
Last month, Jordan Black and Lauren Farrelly were the first nurses to enrol in this programme as they began their Clinical Nurse Specialist training.
Both Jordan and Lauren have worked on the in-patient unit at Hospice for the past few years delivering specialist palliative care as they help patients make the most out of each day.
The Band 5 development post is the next step in their careers specialising in palliative and end-of-life care.
Lauren said: “After two-and-a-half years working on the in-patient unit, this is the natural next step. This role means we can support the entire team in the smooth running of the in-patient unit, while also supporting the Senior Sisters with their duties.”

Working with other education providers and in-house training, the programme will support their journey from novice to expert.
Jordan and Lauren will be based on the in-patient unit at Hospice for a year as Junior Sisters before joining the Specialist Palliative Care Team based in the community for two years, where they will care for patients at their homes or in the hospital.

Hilary Hopkins, Director of Palliative Care Services, said: “We really are excited to be supporting Lauren and Jordan in this next step of their careers at Jersey Hospice Care.
"They are valued members of our team who already play an instrumental role in supporting our patients to receive the best care possible, and I know with this development programme they will go from strength to strength.”
