La Mare Wine Estate has won a medal at a prestigious international competition for one of their wines.
The local wine producer received a bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirits competition for their 2023 vintage of Bailiwick red wine.
The vintage Bailiwick, a distinctive blend made from Rondo and Regent grapes finished in French oak, was described by the IWSC judges as "soft and playful with bold notes of tart blueberries, peppery cherries, and smoky dark fruits".
The wine was made by winemaker Jordi Sanvicens Moreno, who was born in Catalonia and has a degree in Viticulture and Enology as well as an extensive career working at vineyards all over the world.
"I'm immensely proud of what we have achieved," he said, "especially as creating Bailiwick was particularly challenging due to making significant changes to the vineyard’s production methods."

"We are reshaping the way wine is produced", he added. "Not only in Jersey but also in the UK, by importing and utilising materials rarely used here, such as manno proteins, unique oak blends, and specialised yeasts."
Tim Crowley, Managing Director at La Mare, commented: "I am incredibly proud of Jordi, Andrew our Vineyard Manager and the entire team’s achievement with Bailiwick.
"This recognition from the IWSC underscores the step-change in quality of our wines and our approach to winemaking."
