Living Wage rises to £11.27

Jersey’s Living Wage for 2022 has increased to £11.27 per hour to recognise that the “true cost of living in the island is 2% more than London.”

The Living Wage takes into account the cost of living, taxes and the value of benefits available to working people on low incomes.

In Jersey, Caritas is responsible for administering and promoting it.

Its CEO, Patrick Lynch, commented: “Throughout the pandemic our Living Wage campaign has continued to receive significant interest.  We have doubled the number of accredited firms and now have 23 Living Wage employers. We are working with many others to complete their applications. 

“The 2022 rate of £11.27 per hour for Jersey recognises the true cost of living here in the island and is 2% more than London.  We believe that this Living Wage needs to be the floor rather than the ceiling for all Jersey employees' salaries.” 

Jennifer Bridge, Jersey Living Wage Campaign Team Leader, added: “The Living Wage campaign is focusing on lifting the wages of the lowest paid in our community, who frequently work long and unsociable hours or take extra jobs just to survive.

"These are the workers who, through the covid-19 pandemic we now recognise, as a community, as being essential workers. We have witnessed a growing appetite in Jersey to do business ethically and to recognise and value the contribution of all employees.

“We encourage employers to contact us and start a conversation which will hopefully lead to accreditation.”
