The initial three rounds of judging involved completing online questionnaires and questions requiring comprehensive answers of up to 3,000 words.

The fourth and final round analysed the technician’s practical skills. 

Mr Ruellan took part in both a half-day and full-day practical assessment of skills in Warwick, beating nine semi-finalists and four finalists. 

He said: “Winning this award is a dream come true; never in a million years did I think I would be crowned the winner. 

“The practical assessments were tough with the added pressure of the timer. I love diagnosing problems with cars and exploring new technologies such as Electric Vehicles."

Mr Ruellan added: “For someone from an independent garage in Jersey, to win against some of the most experienced and skilled technicians from all across the UK is a massive achievement.”
