Jersey's External Relations Minister made his first visit to Oman last week in hopes of boosting ties with the nation.

On Thursday 18 November, Senator Ian Gorst met senior members of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, including His Excellency Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

The Minister also met with the Central Bank of Oman, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Authority of Oman to "discuss how to develop the Oman-Jersey relationship in a number of areas."

Discussions were about growing the treaty network between the Island and the Sultanate were described as "positive" by Jersey's Government.

They added in a statement afterwards: "Senator Gorst and officials are grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Oman in London and the British Embassy in Muscat for help and support with the busy and successful visit.

"This visit continues the work of External Relations in delivering the priorities of Jersey’s Common Strategy Policy to create a sustainable, vibrant economy and to enhance Jersey’s international profile."
