Katie Le Quesne has been elected to succeed John Boothman as Chair of Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands.
Katie has a long history in the communications field as she is a former journalist who worked at both the Jersey Evening Post and Channel TV. She also set up and ran the States of Jersey Communications Unit, where she worked for former Chief Executive, Bill Ogley.
She also has a great deal of experience in the local third sector where she has previously worked as a governor, and then chair of governors, at both Highlands College and Grainville School. She has been a trustee of the Shelter Trust and a volunteer tutor in literacy for the Jersey Probation Service, as well as a volunteer adviser at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Jersey.
Mrs Le Quesne has been a trustee of Lloyds Bank Foundation for two years. She said: “Lloyds Bank Foundation has achieved a huge amount over the last 30 years in the Channel Islands – giving over £15m to charities which help the disadvantaged. I am very proud to chair the board which continues this work today.
“I very much want to help those in our community who have to struggle to get by. The Channel Islands face distinct social issues. In Jersey, one in three young people lives in relative low income – the same as the UK - and one pensioner in three also lives in relative low income – which is twice the number in the UK. Guernsey faces similar challenges, with one in five local households living on an income of less than £18,000 per annum.
“We are immensely fortunate to have such a large number of people in the Islands who give their time on a voluntary basis – often working for charities – to help the disadvantaged. In Jersey it is estimated that 40% of our population do voluntary work and in Guernsey there are twice as many charities per head of the population than exist in the UK. Lloyds Bank Foundation provides essential support to these charities and their workers.”
Tim Cooke, Islands Director, Lloyds Bank, said: “Katie has shown real dedication in her role as a trustee of the Foundation during the past two years and has made a significant contribution in supporting its objectives. I’m pleased to see her elected as Chair as I know she will bring commitment and expertise in leading the Foundation in its support of many charitable organisations and the vital work they do in both Islands."
