Telecommunications firm Sure says the success of its shop over Christmas bucks the trend of fewer shoppers in town.
A 15% rise in the number of visitors to the Sure store in December 2013, when compared to the same period in 2012, was helped by successful late night and Sunday shopping periods, which also showed an increase on the previous year.
The increased number of shoppers resulted in more sales with Sure seeing a 44% increase in the number of 'smart plans' sold. These are data-centric mobile phone tariffs, which also confirms the trend for increasing mobile data consumption.
“Our healthy Christmas figures show that people still value talking to technology experts when buying a new phone,” said Graham Hughes, Chief Executive of Sure Jersey. “It is possible to buy mobile handsets online but what you can’t do is discuss your usage and technology requirements, which can be quite complex.
“Our Christmas figures also show that islanders value having a shop that they can access easily, with staff who understand island life and the full range of communications products available.”
