St. Saviour given Living Wage employer status

St. Saviour has become the latest parish to receive Living Wage accreditation.

Caritas Jersey promotes the adoption of the ‘Living Wage’ – currently set at £12.19 per hour – which considers the cost of living, taxes and the value of benefits available to working people on low incomes.

St. Helier became the first parish to receive the accreditation last year.

"It is wonderful to be able to accredit the Parish of St. Saviour as a living wage employer," Caritas Chief Executive Patrick Lynch said.

"More and more, we are seeing organisations from both the public and private sectors seeking accreditation and it is great to have another of our parishes on board. We encourage more organisations to follow, especially as we heard just last week that interest rates have risen again and the financial struggles that many islanders face, continue.

"The cost of living emergency is far from over, unfortunately, and a Living Wage is one way to help everyone."

St. Saviour Constable Kevin Lewis added: "As a States Member and Connétable of St. Saviour, I believe it is crucial that we recognise the hard work and dedication of our employees by providing them with a Living Wage salary.

"Our staff are the backbone of our parish, and their contributions are essential to the success of our community. By paying a Living Wage, we demonstrate our commitment to fair and just compensation for our valued workforce, which in turn benefits our entire community."
