A programme of charter flights from Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands is being hailed as a demonstration of Jersey’s status as a visitor destination, the Economic Development Minister has said.
Blue Islands has been selected to operate flights from a range of European airports to both Jersey and Guernsey, which the airline estimates will lead to up to 39,000 visitor nights and spending of up to £4.2m.
Weekly flights to and from Stuttgart have already commenced on behalf of Globalis and will continue every week for 28 weeks, using airports across Germany.
Services for passengers from the Dutch cities of Groningen and Rotterdam will start this weekend and run for 20 weeks, while there will be a weekly Zurich service for 15 weeks starting on 15 May.
Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said: “This is a real show of confidence in Blue Islands as a carrier, and in Jersey as a European visitor destination.
“These charter routes enhance Jersey’s emerging status as a regional connectivity hub, and I look forward to working with industry partners to sustainably build on this position in future.”
