Every month in Connect magazine, ViewPoint puts forward a key question facing one of the island's main industry sectors - and then a group of leading practitioners give their take on the answer, and what it means for Jersey.
This month, Joe Bishop, Software Sales and Consulting Associate at Sigma Group CI, wrote about his favourite piece of software for business: an efficient payroll/HR software package...
"If you asked most people “what’s important in their job” they’re likely to tell you about company culture, opportunity for growth, or healthcare benefits.
"But, what is the most important reason for someone to go to work? To get paid so that they have a roof over their head, an education for their children and food in the kitchen. It’s a given to expect that your salary goes into your bank on time every month, so that you can get on with your life. I know it’s what I expect.
"Keeping employee’s personal data safe and paying your salaries doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive or time consuming – but it so often is for businesses large and small. It doesn’t matter if you have 4 or 400 hundred employees, when it comes to paying people accurately and on time problems always remain the same.

"Businesses want to be focused on their customers and hopefully on making a profit. With an intelligent automated payroll package, they don’t need to spend their valuable time determining social security contributions or calculating benefit in kind deductions.
"Reducing liability and increasing productivity in payroll is easily achievable with the correct tools.
"There are a number of locally developed Payroll/HR software packages that cater for the unique requirements of the Jersey and Guernsey social security departments and whichever one you choose will free up you or your admin team to focus on your business."
