Government sets up accountancy training scheme

The Government has launched a new accountancy training scheme, and is encouraging graduates and school leavers to apply.

The Developing Accountants programme, which has just launched, will offer five trainees the chance to complete their accountancy qualifications while working in the Treasury and Exchequer department.

As part of the programme, trainees will receive a competitive salary, one-to-one mentoring, as well as support during their studies. They will also have the possibility of progress in their careers through salary increases and promotions.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for islanders looking to start a career in finance, where they will be able to work on issues that really matter for Jersey," Treasurer Richard Bell said.

"Our Developing Accountants will work on projects across government, gaining an understanding of different areas of accountancy, while also completing a professional qualification. This is a great chance to embark on an exciting and rewarding career."

School leavers, graduates and people wishing to change careers, from a range of academic, cultural and social backgrounds to apply, especially if they have "a keen interest in finance, and a desire to learn, to consider putting themselves forward.”

The scheme is open to any islander who meets the entry requirements, and who is eligible to work in Jersey. Anyone wishing to apply can do so online.

Training will start in January.

More trainees will be recruited throughout the year to begin training in September 2020.
