We're flying more but fewer of us are taking the ferry

More of us are flying to and from the Island but fewer are travelling by ferry according to the latest official figures.

There were over five thousand more air passengers in October this year than last, a total of 140,828 passengers were recorded through Jersey Airport, which is a 4% increase on 2015 (135,438) and 10.2% on 2014 (127,805).

On a year-to-date commercial air passenger numbers are 4.2% ahead of 2015 with 1,384,114 travelling passengers so far compared to 1,328,390 in 2015 (up 55,724) and up 110,000 on 2014.

Fewer people are flying between the Islands but the London market together with the North East, Scotland and Eire continue to increase year on year.

More of us took the ferry last month than in Oct 2015, the numbers were up 7% with 53,779 passengers compared to 50,433.

But overall fewer of us are sailing, numbers are down 15% on last year with 622,527 recorded so far  in 2016 compared to 729,544 in 2015.

Sea passengers through the harbours were 27,119 arrivals and 26,660 departures.
