With just under three weeks to go, the 2022 Swimarathon is on target with more than 400 teams registered and there is still room for more!
The 2022 Swimarathon, organised by the Lions Club of Jersey and sponsored by Ravenscroft, will be the 50th event and takes place between 9 and 13 March at Les Quennevais Pool.
“From the Lions’ point of view this is a very special event for a number of reasons,” says Club president Lion Bill Harris. “In particular it marks a return to near post-Covid normality for our major fundraiser. Secondly, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Ravenscroft, all the moneys raised by the swimmers will go to local good causes, especially the Community Hub for local elderly people and those with disabilities being created at Maison des Landes, itself a Lions project since the mid-1960s.”
To celebrate the 50th anniversary, the Lions have also challenged the corporate teams taking part to make a combined effort to raise £50,000 by matching whatever their teams raise in personal sponsorship. The organisation that raises the most money towards achieving this figure will receive a special commemorative trophy.
There are still slots available for those wishing to participate and details of their availability can be obtained from administrator@lionsswimaratho.org.
“We are delighted that all the signs are that the Swimarathon will be the event that we have all become used to over the past 50 years,” says Lion Bill Harris, “And we are very grateful for the support we have received to bring that about, from the Les Quennevais management, our sponsors and, above all, the 400 plus Islanders who are prepared to swim for charity.”
