Shoppers can expect a reduction in the price of their weekly shopping after Alliance signed a long-term partnership deal with Tesco.
The locally-owned store has already been testing Tesco products for several months, but the new deal will significantly expand product offering and will bring even more quality, choice, and value to its already extensive customer base.
The deal comes as Alliance announce plans to invest significantly in the Braye Road site, extending the fresh and frozen food offering, this entails doubling the chilled, produce and frozen food areas and installing new efficient modern equipment which will house extended Tesco and top branded ranges. Plans also include adding ten new staff to the 70-strong workforce, with potentially more to come.
‘This will mean more money in the pockets of our customers at the end of the week,’ said Alliance managing director Andrew Bagot.
‘The quality, choice and value that we can offer to Islanders through the partnership agreement with Tesco will make a real difference not just to the range of products available to shoppers, but also to their shopping bills.
‘We have more than doubled the business that we do in the last five years, and this step will help us to grow further. Within six months we expect to be stocking thousands of Tesco product lines across their Everyday Value, Tesco and Finest ranges, and we are aiming to get as close to UK prices as we possibly can.
‘Customers are already telling us that we are reducing the cost of shopping, and we want to go further and deliver even more quality and value.’
Alliance has been trading in Guernsey for more than 30 years, and the company is owned and registered in the island.
Tesco is one of the world’s biggest retailers, with more than half a million staff in 12 countries around the globe. They are the leading player in the UK’s £163 billion per year grocery market with more than 3,000 stores around the country.
