Altius CI, the leading Jersey-based Data and Business Change Consultancy, have teamed up with TackleAfrica, to provide sponsorship for the Jersey Football Marathon and assist with TackleAfrica’s data analytics and reporting capabilities.

TackleAfrica is a HIV / AIDS awareness and education charity who operate in sub-Saharan Africa. The organisation use football coaching to educate young Africans about sexual health, relationships and HIV. TackleAfrica programmes teach young people how to avoid getting HIV, how to live with HIV if you have it, and how to support others to do the same.  All education is done on the pitch through unique interactive football drills, so young people enjoy, understand, learn and remember.

John Gamble, Director of Altius CI, first brought the TackleAfrica Football Marathon to Jersey in 2011, when the event featured just six teams, raising a total of £6,000. Now in its sixth year, the annual 12-hour football event has grown organically through word of mouth to become a fixture in the Jersey footballing calendar. In 2016 16 teams battled it out for the trophy, raising just over £25,000 for TackleAfrica, taking the money raised in Jersey over the last five years to over £60,000.

Altius CI’s sponsorship will go towards the costs of the event, meaning all funds raised by players will go directly to support TackleAfrica’s work in providing HIV education through football coaching. As part of their sponsorship, Altius CI have also agreed to provide analytics support for TackleAfrica’s day to day operations, helping them to use data to understand, model and transform their internal processes.

Members of the public are welcome to come along to support the teams and donations can be made to the charity online or on the day.

John Gamble commented:

“I’d like to thank everyone that has taken part in Jersey’s TackleAfrica tournaments over the years. This is a truly unique and fun endurance event, and it has been fantastic to see how it’s grown over the years. It’s always a challenge to introduce new ideas and concepts to people, but trying to educate people in another culture, who also speak a different language, is an entirely unique challenge. Using football as a teaching medium is a really innovative, interactive approach which results in much greater levels of engagement than otherwise would be possible.  I’m very excited about the event in July and hopeful that we’ll beat last year’s total!”
