Thirty three members of the Jersey Estate Agents Association (JEAA) are to benefit from a visit by a trainer from the National Association of Estate Agents Propertymark (NAEA) thanks to law firm Carey Olsen in Jersey.
Alistair George, a chartered surveyor, will be speaking to 33 local members of the JEAA at their first all day on island training seminar which will be held at the Ambassadeur Hotel on Thursday 21 September 2017.
Recognising that estate agents are not surveyors, he will demonstrate how a basic understanding of building design and defect identification and diagnosis will help estate agents to provide "added value" when advising clients. The seminar will explain how domestic buildings are constructed, covering the main elements of construction such as foundations, walls, roof and windows and service installations, such as drainage, water, heating, gas and electricity, and how to spot common defects.
The all day seminar will also include a legal presentation by Carey Olsen's Head of Property Law Group, Chris Philpott and Senior Associate, Will Whitehead. The property law experts will talk about agent's obligations and compliance requirements; the residential tenancy law and deposit scheme; Control of Housing and Work Law, HMO and Fire Certificates as well as relevant legal updates.
John Quemard, President of the JEAA, said, "This is the first all day on island seminar held for our members as previously it has been necessary for local agents to attend courses in the UK and it has only been made possible by Carey Olsen's property law group.
Chris Philpott partner at Carey Olsen commented, "We are very pleased to enable JEAA members to increase their knowledge to be able to provide their clients with added value and so we are delighted to bring over the NAEA Propertymark trainer and to also share our legal expertise with them".
