Dozens of primary schoolchildren have a very sweet job to do at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa this Christmas.
The six and seven year-olds from Mont Nicolle School have been invited to the AA Four Red Star hotel in St Brelade next week to assist with the creation and decoration of an impressive gingerbread village.
They’ll be helping Executive Head Chef Andrew Soddy and his kitchen brigade decorate gingerbread houses. The children, who are part of local charity Caring Cooks’ Let’s Get Cooking programme and are learning how to plant, grow and prepare food themselves at school will also be decorating some gingerbread biscuits to take home.
The charity’s Founder Melissa Nobrega said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to find out more about what has become a festive tradition in so many kitchens around the world at this time of the year. There is a huge amount of work and skill that goes into making these villages and it will be great to show the children what can be achieved with a passion for cooking which I hope they will all have by the time they start secondary school. Visits such as this are great to have as extensions of our learning on the Let’s Get Cooking Programme”
Executive Head Chef Andrew Soddy said, “We’re really looking forward to the children joining us next week. I’m sure they will bring plenty of festive cheer and excitement with them and will be a great help. This year’s Gingerbread Village is set to be bigger and better than ever and even features a working waterfall!”
The Gingerbread villages are an annual festive fixture at both L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa and its sister hotel Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa; and the winter wonderland scenes will be on display at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa from 21st December until 29th December and at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa from 19th December through to the 27th December.
