In a world where data has become invaluable and client trust depends on whether personal information is secure, the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) is hosting a whole week of events to mark Data Protection Day on 28th January 2019.
There are events for both businesses and individuals. They will raise awareness about the importance of data protection and promote good data privacy practices, which are critical to business success and personal security.
The opening conference takes place from 08:30 to 13:00 on Monday 28th January at the Jersey Opera House, with a line-up of expert presentations. Topics will include; surviving a significant data breach, non-executive directors and board members’ responsibilities; how data will be affected by Brexit, data protection for the tourism and hospitality sectors; and building collaborative data bridges.
Throughout the week, there will be events for small businesses, trades, charities and not-for- profit organisations, as well as members of the public. A full schedule of events will be released soon.
Dr Jay Fedorak, Information Commissioner at JOIC, said:
“Many people mistrust how businesses and governments manage their personal data. Our aim is to create awareness of people’s rights and organisations’ obligations with respect to personal information, both professionally and personally.
We hope these events will inform individuals and businesses about the social and economic benefits of effective data protection and make people aware of what they can do to safeguard themselves or their business.”
