A leading global provider of fiduciary and administration services has committed to the sponsorship of the Let’s Get Cooking Programme at Samarès School in St Clement, run by Caring Cooks of Jersey.

The initiative will provide food and nutrition education to more than 60 children aged 7-8, with the aim to get them learning essential life skills in the kitchen and understanding what’s good to eat for their future health.

The five-week programme will see them learning how to make dishes such as sweet potato muffins, feta and spinach samosas and vegetable stir fry.  Let’s Get Cooking will give the children a wider understanding about food and nutrition as well as local produce, such as locally grown sweet potatoes.

The sponsorship will also provide over 200 children throughout the school with branded ice packs to keep their packed lunches cool, particularly as we head towards warmer weather.

Richard Prosser, Group Director at Estera, said: The Let’s Get Cooking Programme is a fantastic initiative; nutrition is such an important topic for children to understand from a young age so that they develop healthier eating habits as they get older. We are very pleased to be involved with this initiative and are impressed by the work of the Caring Cooks of Jersey.”

Melissa Noberga, Founder and Chief Executive Caring Cooks of Jersey, added: ”Let’s Get Cooking is a pioneering programme for Jersey schools and although it’s still very much in its infancy, the results we are seeing are incredible.  67% of parents tell us that they have seen a positive change in their children’s eating habits at home and in school the children have been really excited to try the dishes that they have made.

“Estera’s commitment to community, health and wellbeing fits perfectly with our mission at Caring Cooks and we are grateful for their support at Samarès School, it is certainly changing children’s lives not only now, but for the future.”

Mike McDermott, Headteacher at Samarès Primary School, concluded: “We are so fortunate to have the Caring Cooks of Jersey working with us in school, their work with the children has surpassed our expectations. Thanks to the support of Estera we are able to provide pupils with engaging and exciting opportunities to learn valuable life skills and develop their knowledge and understanding of food, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. The children look forward so much to their sessions and benefit enormously from the expertise of the Caring Cooks team.”
