Earlier this month, Intertrust's very own Christmas elves spent an evening decorating a Christmas tree at Beresford Street Kitchen.

The tree was decorated with lights, tinsel, colourful baubles and hanging from the branches were special 'random acts of kindness' messages, written by employees of Beresford Street Kitchen and the CSR team at Intertrust.

Visitors to Beresford Street Kitchen will be invited to take a message and carry out an act of kindness at their leisure during the festive period and into the new year.

Some examples of the messages are:

‘Pay for someone's coffee’

‘Let someone go in front of you in the queue’

‘Smile at someone’

‘Offer someone a hug’

‘Buy someone flowers’

The Aspire Charitable Trust Jersey, founded in 2015, operates through its wholly owned Jersey company Beresford Street Kitchen which aims to provide quality education, training and employment opportunities for people with learning difficulties to enable them to reach their full potential.

Helene Senior, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Intertrust said: "We're thrilled to have been given the opportunity to give something back at Christmas and what better way to start the festive season.

“The charity does great work helping people with learning difficulties find employment through training and education. This is why we were keen to help and make their Christmas special by encouraging people to have a positive impact on the wider community.”

Gabby Ellmers, Operations Manager at Beresford Street Kitchen, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Intertrust for helping decorate our Christmas tree.  Intertrust volunteers spent an evening writing the messages and making the tree look festive. It was a lovely surprise for our employees to arrive at work the next morning and see the tree.

“It will really help bring the meaning of Christmas to life here at Beresford Street Kitchen and we hope the kindness messages will help brighten up our visitors’ days.”

Beresford Street Kitchen provides paid accredited apprenticeships, traineeships and a pathway pre-employment service to provide supported training in a work-based environment. It is a social enterprise and all money generated through sales goes back into the charity to support people with disabilities.
