Children at Wesley Pre-School have a brand new climbing frame, thanks to Investec.
The Investec Charitable Trust donated £1,000 to the pre-school to go to towards the cost of the play equipment and a shed for storing toys.
The pre-school’s manager, Heidi Abbotts, welcomed the donation.
‘We are not always able to buy expensive new equipment and therefore donations like this one from Investec are absolutely vital,’ said Miss Abbotts.
Paula Robinson from the trust said the committee felt that providing play equipment and storage to Wesley Pre-School was a worthy cause.
‘To meet our criteria the charity or organisation must benefit Guernsey people and where possible the donation should be used to buy something tangible, rather than be added to a large pot of money. Here, the benefits are clear – there are lots of very happy smiling faces and you can’t ask for more than that,’ said Mrs Robinson.
The Investec Charitable Trust has given more than £6,000 to needy causes in the last 12 months. Beneficiaries include Age Concern, The Guernsey branch of the British Red Cross, GSPCA and Vauvert Primary School.
In September the bank gave £300 to the Lihou Charitable Trust for a new lawnmower.
Richard Curtis, warden for the trust, said the donation came just at the right time.
‘The one we had was completely broken down and I was having to use my domestic one. We use the grounds of Lihou House for team games for school children so keeping them well maintained is essential; we are extremely grateful to Investec for the donation, which allowed to us to buy a new lawn mower outright,’ said Mr Curtis.
Each year volunteers from Investec, including managing director Stephen Henry, accompany children and teachers from Amherst Primary School for their summer camp on Lihou.
The company provides four members of staff with a day off to help with a range of adventurous activities on the island.
