Staff at Investec Private Bank in Jersey have donated over £12,000 raised through fundraising and sponsorship to Jersey Trees for Life.
The money has been raised as part of a three year partnership with the charity with 14 staff from the bank helping to plant and maintain hedgerows in an area of land close to St Ouen’s Pond. The objective is to create a wildlife corridor for species of small animals including birds, mammals and reptiles in one of the Island’s most important natural habitats.
Each member of the team spends two days working each year alongside skilled land management teams from Jersey Trees for Life. Three intrepid Investec employees - Kevin Allen, Audrey Lynch and Andy Smith - also raised over £3,000 by completing the Three Peaks Challenge, a gruelling event that involves scaling the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland.
Kevin Allen, Head of Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited in Jersey said, “We believe that to be a responsible business we can, and must have a positive impact on the success and well-being of our local communities and the environment. The staff involved in this project are all volunteers and are not only making a valuable contribution to the work of Jersey Trees for Life, they are learning more about themselves, and team working and they are bringing these new skills back into the workplace.”
The Investec team recently met representatives of the charity to hand over the funds they have raised so far.
Conrad Evans of Jersey Trees for Life said, “We are pleased to have been chosen as a partner by Investec and the project is progressing very well. We must also congratulate the three staff who have pushed themselves to the limit to complete the Three Peaks Challenge and raise more funds for our work”.
