Staff at Investec Bank in the Channel Islands may be working remotely, but they have come together to support local charitable causes during the coronavirus lockdown.
Brendan Stewart, CEO of Investec Private Bank in the Channel Islands said, "At Investec we say we say we live in society, not off it. Right now is one of those times when we will demonstrate this value. Coronavirus and its many impacts have made us think about how we can help our communities - meaningfully, directly and immediately. We have listened to the calls to help more families in the Islands, and we have answered with a collective effort that has seen donations to many organisations and individuals in need right now."
In Guernsey, funds have been donated to the Guernsey Welfare Service to purchase food parcels for families in need, and Investec's chosen CSR partner the GSPCA has benefitted from staff donating money through the bank's Final Hour Giving scheme. The charity continues to look after more than 350 animals and the Investec staff donation will help meet some of the day to day running costs.
Steve Byrne of the GSPCA said "Investec have been an amazing support to us here at the GSPCA. Just before the lockdown staff from Investec were giving up time in the office to help us here at the Shelter every week. As the lockdown approached fund raising and our services have been massively affected by the coronavirus crisis. Boarding, our shop areas and fundraising would help raise the day-to-day costs of our 24/7 work with the 300-500 animals in our care but due to the lockdown much of this has all but stopped.
"We cannot thank the team enough for their amazing donation towards our appeal which will help make a huge difference to ensure that we can continue helping the animals of Guernsey."
In Jersey donations have been made from Investec's Charitable Fund to the Grace Trust who have teamed up with The Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and Caritas to form The Jersey Foodbank based at the Salvation Army headquarters in Minden Street, focusing energy and resources into one combined response for those who are struggling during the coronavirus crisis.
Staff in Jersey have also offered personal donations to Variety, the children's charity that provides help and support to vulnerable families. In May the bank has chosen Jersey Women's Refuge to be the beneficiary of its fundraising effort.
Investec staff across the Islands have committed to maintain their charitable support on a rolling monthly basis for the foreseeable future.
