Jersey Airport has been named ‘Best Aerodrome’ by the UK Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA) for its outstanding facilities and helpful service.
AOPA UK is part of the world’s largest and most influential membership body, serving the interests of aircraft owners and private pilots in the general aviation (GA) community. Part of its testimonial reads, “Jersey Airport is a busy destination for many commercial aviation flights. Nevertheless, the experience of visiting GA pilots is that Jersey Airport, supported by helpful Air Traffic Control, makes a significant effort to accommodate GA. …. The airport is aware that GA has nowhere else to land in the Island and has worked with the Jersey Aero Club to avoid GA getting mixed up with the commercial passenger traffic…. Jersey Airport stands out as a busy airport that manages to provide an outstanding service to GA visitors and residents alike”.
In response, Senior Air Traffic Control Officer, Les Smallwood, says, “Jersey Air Traffic Control has built a positive relationship with the Jersey Aero Club and the GA community in recent years, appointing a Corporate & GA Development Manager to further strengthen this sector and encourage increased activity in the Channel Island. AOPA is a highly respected body and to receive such recommendation and endorsement by the GA community is something that Ports of Jersey can be very proud of”.
Representatives from Ports of Jersey will attend the awards presentation in the UK on Saturday 3 June 2017.
