On Sunday 25 June 2017 at 7:30 am 100 intrepid soles will undertake the challenge of a Super Sprint Triathlon in the Gorey/St Catherine’s area. Coincidentally this is the same day that the Island Games Triathlon will be taking place with the likes of Katie Silva and Demri Mitchell competing. Katie and Demri are two of a number of triathletes and swimmers who have given up their time to provide free training to all those taking part in the Try-a-Tri and this has proved to be invaluable to all.

This is the second Try-a-Tri event held by the Jersey Triathlon Club aimed at those who have never competed in a Triathlon and novices finding their way.  Last year’s event attracted 69 participants - this year we had to close the entry at 100. The event will comprise of a 400m sea swim at Longbeach, followed by a 10km cycle from Longbeach to St Catherine’s Breakwater and back, followed by a 2.5km run around Gorey Common.

Sign-up for this event has now closed because the maximum number of competitors has been reached but there are still opportunities to get involved and support the event and those taking part.  Supporters are welcome to cheer everyone along and if you would like to get involved further the Triathlon Club would welcome volunteers to assist with marshalling the event.

The Try-a-Tri is also a charity event with a portion of the entry fee going to After Breast Cancer Jersey (“ABC”) who are a local charity who have been helping women with Breast Cancer since 1999. ABC provide emotional and financial support on an individual basis. ABC have recently set up a 12 week fitness program for women to regain movement and improve fitness levels after their treatment, which has proved to be a huge success.  The Try-a-Tri event links in well with ABC’s aim of encouraging fitness to improve health and well-being.  Volunteers from ABC will be present on the day of the event with a cake stall and information stand for anyone wishing to know more.  Also on the day there will be opportunities for people to donate to support the excellent work carried out by ABC. Further information about ABC can be found on their website - http://www.afterbreastcancer.org.je/

Anyone interested in helping out on the day please contact the Jersey Triathlon Club via their Facebook page.  Otherwise please come along to shout your support to those taking part (those taking part will appreciate every single cheer!)
