'The vision for St Peter Port Town and Harbour , The Bridge and St Sampsons Harbour seeks to look forward into the 21 Century to map out a possible future for each area to ensure that all the elements of the town centres and harbours are considered together and to create a cohesive view to conserve, enhance and develop the towns and harbours to best benefit the community of Guernsey’

The Vision is a ‘community’ document prepared by a Visioning Team following a Visioning Day involving people representing a wide range of users of Town and The Bridge.  The idea for a Vision is anchored in the States Strategic Land Use Plan  which states that opportunities for the Main Centres of Town and the Bridge should be brought together in a single vision that presents a picture of how the main centres may appear in the future and how various agencies can contribute to its delivery.

The Vision is not a blueprint for development, but is intended to stimulate discussion and encourage the public and private sectors to work together to bring about positive change. There may be a number of different ways of achieving the Vision and for this reason it is not detailed or specific.

David Falla, Chairman of the Visioning Team:

‘The Island’s two main centres currently present many attractive features but also there is much to do to improve the towns and harbours for all Islanders to enjoy . It is my hope that The Visioning Team’s work over the last year will lay the foundations for a community based programme which will over the coming years lead to many improvements  in the public realm, housing, the commercial and visitor economies  and town centre transport coordination.’

The launch and presentation of the Visions for the Guernsey Town Centres and related Harbour areas will take place at the Holy Trinity Church St Peter Port on Wednesday 2 October at 3pm.
