• Bike Month Challenge runs between 1 and 31 May • Islanders encouraged to log rides and refer friends to Love to Ride • More local prizes available for individuals and workplaces to win.
Following the success of ‘Ride into Spring’, Love to Ride’s Bike Month Challenge will be running throughout May where Islanders logging their bike rides and referring friends will be able to win various local prizes.
Workplaces are being asked to encourage their employees to sign up to Love to Ride and incentivise cycle commutes to and from work. The challenge is open to everyone including new, infrequent, and regular cyclists.
The Sustainability and Climate Change team, who are running the campaign, are contacting different businesses to get their staff involved, and will be holding various engagement events throughout May. To get in touch with the team, please email sustainabletransport@gov.je.
For the first time, prizes are also available for workplaces to win, including a two-hour hire of Lulu’s Ice Cream, a team outing at Valley Adventures, team meals out, and a MANTIS wall-mounted bike maintenance station.

The campaign is in line with the Government’s Sustainable Transport Policy, and one of its key principles that a reduction of motor vehicle journeys will be good for Jersey. A reduction in carbon emissions also supports Jersey’s path to net zero by 2050, as envisaged under the Carbon Neutral Roadmap.
Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Deputy Hilary Jeune, said: “This challenge is another opportunity to encourage Islanders to get active and reduce their carbon footprint by cycling. On the transport hierarchy, cycling is one of the best modes of travel to reduce our impact on the environment. I’d particularly like to see more commuter journeys on Love to Ride as this makes such a difference in reducing our carbon emissions.
“If you want to get involved but you haven’t got a bike or it needs fixing up, there are a number of bike shops in Jersey, as well as various parish repair cafés. You can also get secondhand bikes from charity shops, Facebook buy and sell pages, and Acorn Enterprises who accept donated bikes and fix them up to re-sell for a low price in their shop.”

Well done everyone who was involved with the first one, we’ve got high hopes to get even more Islanders signing up and cycling for this challenge now that the weather is a bit warmer.
“The challenge truly is open to all abilities – I’d really like to see more beginners signing up so the e-bike prize will be for beginners only, but we have loads of fantastic prizes for workplaces and individuals to win. If you signed up last time, make sure you keep logging your rides during Bike Month – and encourage your friends, family, and colleagues at work to sign up too.”
