Let your imagination run wild next month at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa where ‘it’s always tea time’!

The AA Four Red Star beachside hotel in St Brelade is hosting a very special Mad Hatters Tea Party on Sunday 13thMay from 1pm until 4pm for the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity’s Melanoma Awareness Day, MAD for short.

The event has been organised to support the hotel’s charity of choice for 2018 and to highlight the importance of staying safe in the sun.

Guests will tuck into a range of deliciously delicate finger sandwiches including smoked salmon, cream cheese and chive, and roast beef, pickled gherkin and horseradish mayonnaise. Meanwhile the sweet treats are inspired by the famous children’s book Alice in Wonderland, with Queen of Hearts rose and strawberry jammy dodgers and white hare pocket watch chocolate brownies on the menu, not forgetting Alice’s cinnamon, apple and peach “Drink Me” potion!

There will be prizes for the best dressed and entertainment for the children including face painting, craft activities and a disco.

The Donna Annand Melanoma Charity (DAMC), which works to prevent, protect against and promote the early detection of Melanoma in Jersey, was established in 2011 following the tragic death of Donna from cancer at the age of just 29.

Malignant Melanoma is a form of skin cancer, which affects the pigment producing cells (Malanocytes) and often appears as a new or changing mole. It’s one of the most common forms of cancer in young adults between 25 and 29.

Commenting on the event, Simon Miller, General Manager of Hand Picked Hotels Jersey said, “This promises to be a totally bonkers afternoon as any Mad Hatters Tea Party should be with plenty of fun and entertainment and a deliciously different spread that would make any Cheshire cat smile!

“We’ll be raising awareness of Melanoma and the dangers of skin cancer throughout the month and highlighting the amazing job that DAMC does helping to keep us all safe in the sun.”

Kerry Petulla from DAMC, said: “We are delighted that L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa is hosting this special afternoon tea which will no doubt keep all the mad hatters entertained while helping us get our message out that Islanders really need to ‘know their skin.’ Early detection of this disease really is vital. With proper treatment around 99% of people will survive but those rates decline dramatically if the cancer starts to spread.”

Tickets for the very special Mad Hatters Tea Party cost £29 for adults and £10 for children, who will all take home a special goody bag. All proceeds will go to the charity.

There’s no excuse to be late for this very important date… tickets are available atEventbrite.
