On Saturday 12th November an amazing team of new Prison Officer Recruits are holding a fundraiser for JAYF. To top off their intense 10-week training programme they will be taking on a remarkable rowing, running and spinning challenge at Charing Cross, St Helier from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
New recruit Olivia Arrowsmith said “We intend to cover some big distances: rowing the channel, cycling around the island twice and running two marathons!”
All funds raised will help JAYF provide safe, affordable, and supervised accommodation for young people experiencing homelessness in Jersey. Although rough sleeping is the most visible form of homelessness, more young people experience ‘hidden homelessness.’ Pushed to the brink, young people are sleeping on sofas of family & friends or living in cars with no stability or security. The new Recruits decided to fundraise for JAYF as part of their 10-week training programme and in an effort to strengthen community ties.
Kate Kelly, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at JAYF said “The demand for accommodation is at its highest ever due to the impact of COVID and the cost-of-living crisis on young people. In this challenging time community fundraising is more important than ever, please do pop down to Charing Cross on Saturday to show the States of Jersey Prison Service's terrific trainees your support and cheer on our champs as they take on this challenge and test their limits.”
