Women in Jersey are being urged to pull on their trainers and enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life as there is just one week left until registration closes.

Hundreds of women have already signed up to take part on Sunday 27 May at Les Jardin de la Mer.

Online entry closes on 25 May, though registration in person on the day is available, organisers are encouraging women committed to the cause to sign up to the 5k and 10k events right now at raceforlife.org.

Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Anita Brown, Vice-Chair of Cancer Research UK, Jersey, said: “Now is the time to commit to Race for Life, join like-minded ladies at the start line and make a real difference in the fight against the disease.”

“By taking part and raising money, our participants will play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients in Jersey and across the UK. That’s why every step, every person and every penny raised counts.”

“Our aim is that one day everyone will beat cancer. The more women who Race for Life, the sooner we can help that day come. We are urging women in Jersey to sign up right now and show their support.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Anita continued: “We’re calling on the women of Jersey to sign up today as their participation and contribution is so important.”

“Cancer is a disease that affects us all in some way. By taking part in Race for Life, people can come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those dear to them who have survived. By raising money, participants can also support Cancer Research UK scientists to make vital strides forward in research, helping more men, women and children survive the disease.”

Funds raised from the event will benefit local residents by funding Cancer Research UK’s Research Centre based at Southampton Hospital. Many patients from Jersey are treated in Southampton, it is considered the local hospital for Cancer treatment, as well as the closest hospital for clinical trials as there is no research environment in Jersey. By signing up for Race For Life, Islanders will be helping to raise money for life-saving cancer research that will help to beat cancer sooner.
