A presentation by the Jersey Retinal Screening Team, sponsored by the charity Diabetes Jersey, will be taking place at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Sunday 26 February.
Retinal screening, carried out with a specialist camera (illustrated), is a significant part of managing diabetes and annual screening checks for eye problems caused by diabetes. This is important as the screening can pick up changes at the back of the eye that the person with diabetes may not notice. The eyes of anyone with diabetes are at risk of damage from a condition known as retinopathy. Screening can detect the condition, and if caught early, is treatable.
Attendance at the presentation, which starts at 10.00 am (light refreshments available from 9.00 am), is free and will be of particular value to all those with diabetes, health professionals and anyone with an interest in the condition..
“The presentation will be led by team leader Sara Evans and provides an excellent opportunity better to understand the need for this service,” says Diabetes Jersey chairman Bill O’Brien. “Those attending will be able to appreciate the outcomes from regular examinations that can prevent sight impairment or loss. There will also be the opportunity to put questions to Sarah and her team.”
Anyone wishing to attend can book a place by contacting Liz Freeman at betsff@yahoo,co.uk or by text only to 07797 725728.
