The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s ‘Rossborough Insurance Round the Island Race’ 2017 is open for entries, with organisers expecting even more boats than in previous years.
Scheduled for Sunday 13th August, this 40-mile race is open to both local and visiting sports boats, cruiser/racers and sport catamarans. It starts in St Aubin’s Bay at 8:30am with the fleet heading eastwards to the Violet Channel buoy thence anti-clockwise around the Island returning to St Aubin’s Bay for the finish.
‘Rossborough Insurance, Jersey’s only Chartered Insurance Broker, is proud to be sponsoring this long-standing prestigious race. ‘We’re supporting the event because, like Rossborough, the race has a considerable heritage; indeed, the major trophy was born in the same decade as us. It is a great community event whether you’re spectating or taking part,’ said Clive De La Cour, Rossborough’s Group Managing Director.
The Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial trophies will be the main attraction for the cruiser/racer classes competing in the event organised, as ever, by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club (RCIYC). There is also a trophy for the fastest boat around the Island. The record of three hours and seven minutes set by a Guernsey F18 sport catamaran in recent years may take some beating in this year’s Rossborough Round-the-Island race.
RCIYC Commodore James Wilding, in welcoming Rossborough Insurance’s support said: ‘The race was one of the best ways to enjoy the coastal beauty of Jersey. It is amongst the most prestigious in the Island’s racing calendar and it gives us all great pleasure to have the support of such a well-established and respected Island business. Such support truly adds to the prestige, attraction and excitement of the event.’
‘To circumnavigate Jersey is always a real treat and challenge for the competitors. It is one of the most memorable ways to enjoy this beautiful island, taking in the scenic beauty of the many surrounding beaches and the spectacular cliffs along the north coast and southwest approaches,’ said Commodore Wilding.
The cut and thrust of the day’s racing will be followed by a dinner and prize giving in the RCIYC Clubhouse at St Aubin.
