Following an initiative of the Club’s Community & Vocational Committee, 40 ‘Starter Packs’ and refills have been delivered to the Sanctuary Trust.

These ‘Starter Packs’ will be issued to new residents at the Sanctuary Trust’s two premises to ensure the residents have the basic essentials on arrival, as often, they arrive with nothing. Each pack, in a printed cotton shoulder sack, contains a T shirt, socks, underwear and a full set of toiletries.

The ‘Starter Packs’ have been made possible by drawing on the charitable funds held by the Club and assisted by discounts received from certain suppliers. The re-usable cotton bags which hold the essentials were supplied and screen printed by Beresford Street Kitchen – a registered charity.

Carl Blackmore, Manager of Sanctuary Trust said ‘Our aim is to provide care and support of homeless men in need and to help them reintegrate back into society and become self-sufficient. These ‘Starter Packs’ will help to provide a fresh start to our residents and we are extremely grateful to Rotary Club de la Manche for providing them.’

Rotarian Paul Hesten, the member of the Community & Vocational Committee who led on this project said ‘This has been a most rewarding outcome and the discounts we received from Tim Murphy and Johnson allowed the overall cost to be reached within an agreed budget. Sanctuary Trust is an essential and well run local charity and working with Carl on this project has been a pleasure and we are pleased to have been able to support Sanctuary Trust in this way.’
