Families of children with special needs will receive special Christmas hampers thanks to staff from Sure and Mawson Collins.
The Sure Community Foundation has secured a £350 donation from Mawson Collins, property agents and consultants, which will be used for the basis of 15 hampers for the Wigwam Support Group.
Staff from Sure will donate items of food between now and 16 December to go into the hampers.
Wigwam chairman Nikkie Kerr praised the initiative, which Sure started last year.
‘The families who received them were absolutely thrilled, it was such a treat and they were so grateful for the support of Sure. It’s important, especially at times like Christmas, that our families do not feel alone and know that there is someone else thinking of them,’ she said.
‘We can’t thank Sure enough for all the support they give to us and to our families, I know by comments from the families that they really appreciate Sure coming along to our events too. We’re very grateful to Mawson Collins for their donation this year which will enable us to reach more families.’
One of this year’s recipients is mother-of-three, Sarah Wilson, whose daughter Tia, 12, has special needs.
She said families liker hers really appreciated the donation at a very expensive time of year.
‘It’s really lovely, just before Christmas to get something like this. It’s absolutely perfect, because like everyone times are hard and the excitement something like a hamper brings to the children is fantastic,’ said Miss Wilson.
The telecommunications company’s community foundation began supporting Wigwam in 2012. Last year the foundation covered the group’s running costs of around £1,900, as well as helping out at events and donating the food for 10 Christmas hampers.
The foundation is also providing £500 worth of craft equipment for the support group.
‘Wigwam does such a fantastic job for families of children with special needs, it’s such a worthy cause and our members of staff thoroughly enjoy helping out at their events,’ said Karen Jagger from the Sure Community Foundation.
Howard Mawson, of Mawson Collins, added: ‘The work Wigwam does in providing lots of activities and events for families of children with special needs, and in making them feel included, is wonderful. We hope they thoroughly enjoy the Christmas hampers.’
