Lauren Thomson was the lucky winner of a Fiat 500, first prize for Jersey Association of Italian Culture (JAIC) raffle held at Viva Italia in People's Park last month. The winning ticket was drawn by celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo who had appeared at the event to do cooking demonstrations for the 10,000 islanders and visitors that attended the festival over the weekend.

Lauren, originally from Glasgow, has been living in Jersey for 10 months and works at The Tenby. Gino D'Acampo rang Lauren to tell her the good news but got her voicemail. Lauren said "I was on a plane back to Jersey when the raffle was drawn so my phone was off. When I turned it on I couldn't understand why I had so many messages. I thought my friends were joking!"

JAIC is a local charity that was established last year to raise funds for local and Italian charities through cultural events held in Jersey. Alessio Agostinis, Chairman of the committee, commented "We were thrilled with the success of our first event and can't wait to build on it so that next year we can bring a mix of smaller events as well as the festival for everyone to enjoy." Anyone passionate about Italian culture can join JAIC, the meetings are held in English so you don't need to speak Italian.
