Volunteer Thank You Lunch

On Monday 15th July, the charity Every Child Our Future hosted a lunch at the St. Helier Town Hall to thank its volunteers for all their help and hard work supporting Jersey children during the 2018/19 academic year.

160 of our volunteers attended the lunch, along with Head Teachers, school support staff and Deputy Rob Ward and Deputy Kirstin Morel.  Also attending, and speaking at the lunch, was Deborah McMillan, the Children’s Commissioner. A group of Year 4 children from Samares School performed a delightful poem all about reading and tricky words.

Our Chairman, Nick Kershaw, welcomed everyone and one of our Directors, Cliff Chipperfield, also spoke about the incredible impact our volunteers and funders have on the children they support each week.

Every Child Our Future will be 3 years old in September 2019 and we now have over 480 trained volunteers from companies, students and the wider community who read with children every week on a 1-2-1 basis. There are volunteers in 19 states primary schools, and our volunteers read with 850 children a week. On average, these children have increased their reading ability by 100% more than they would have done without this extra support. Every Child Our Future also funds three Reading Recovery teachers, who work daily with those children who need intensive, specialist help with their reading.

Every Child Our Future is a Jersey registered charity. Corporates providing volunteers and support to the charity include: Ogier, Deloitte, Fairway, BDO, Allan and Gill Gray Foundation, JFSC, Rathbones, Sure, Lloyds, HSBC, KPMG, IQEQ, Ashburton, Aztec, Mourants, Link, Quilter Cheviot, Equiom, Citibank, EY, PWC, UBS, VG, BCR Law, Jersey Rugby Club and Citibank.
