Islanders will run hundreds of miles next month to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

The final event in this year’s 30/30 initiatives organised by the hospice will see islanders running 30 minutes a day during October.

It follows the walking, cycling, swimming and craft challenges, which have collectively raised thousands of pounds and involved hundreds of islanders.

‘It’s hard to believe that another year of 30/30 is coming to an end. All of the events are now really established and we always see a mix of people taking part from those who have done it from the start to those who want a new challenge,’ said Les Bourgs Hospice fundraising administrator Trish De Carteret.

‘Each year, Les Bourgs Hospice needs more than £1 million in funds to cover the operational costs and so it’s absolutely vital that our fundraising events are a success. Without them, we would struggle to provide the care that islanders need when they are suffering from a life-limiting illness.  We have celebrated our 25th birthday this year and are working hard to ensure that we can continue to offer the services we do for many years to come. We would like to thank the public for all their support once again this year, as always it has been amazing.’

Mrs De Carteret said while the event is called 30 runs in 30 days, people of all ages and all fitness levels can take part.

‘People can run as fast or as slowly as they like, when they like and how and where they like. All we ask is that they run the equivalent of 30 minutes a day for 30 days. This can be done however best suits your lifestyle, fitting in the 15 hours of running during the month of October. It’s a great way of making the best of the last lighter evenings before the clocks change.’

A group run will be organised for 30th October to bring together as many of the participants as possible.

Runners need to register by 22nd September to receive their 2016 30 runs running shirt by 1st October, but registrations will still be accepted after that but there will be a delay in running shirts then being delivered. People can register online and download a sponsorship form at www.lesbourgshospice.org.gg or contact Trish De Carteret on 201329.
