The 2016 Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon has been nominated for best marathon in the 2017 Running Awards.

The annual awards cover a variety of categories including running events, accessories, clothing, nutrition and hydration, technology and charity events and are adjudicated by independent voting.

The Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon is one of nearly 40 marathons from across the UK to be nominated. Other nominated marathons include the Virgin Money London Marathon, the Brighton Marathon and the Edinburgh Marathon.

Andy Finch, head of wealth management at sponsors Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, Guernsey said: “We are proud to sponsor an event which is so popular for both local and international runners and promotes our island around the world.

“This award nomination is a great accomplishment for the organisers of the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon and we hope islanders and runners who have taken part in the event will support the marathon by voting in the awards.”

Peter Head, race director of the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the Guernsey Marathon to be nominated for the Running Awards alongside a number of well-known UK marathons.

“Last year’s winner in the marathon category was the Virgin Money London Marathon, so to be recognised in the same category is very exciting. This nomination will help to raise the profile of the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon to even more runners in the UK, and further afield, which is great news for Guernsey.”

Following the public vote, a shortlist of the top 12 marathons will be released on 8 December with the winner announced at a ceremony at the O2 in April 2017.
