Students and young islanders interested in a career in a creative agency are invited to experience ‘22 hours of living the deadline’ in The Big Think.

Local advertising agency LRD – The Big Idea, will take a small group of potential agency team members, put them into teams, and present them with a fictitious but challenging brief. The task will be to come up with a creative campaign within 22 hours that will be judged by the ‘client’ and members of the LRD team.

‘Creative agencies make a huge contribution to the local economy through their work and it is vital that the industry safeguards its future by discovering and developing the creative entrepreneurs of tomorrow,’ explains Tom Robertshaw, LRD managing director.

‘At the core of every great campaign is a great idea. The digital revolution has created a massive demand for content. Some of it is excellent but much doesn’t cut through mediocrity to create an impact. The focus of The Big Think is to get teams to use their grey matter to come up with a great idea and then ‘sell’ it to the ‘client’. This event will give students an idea of what agency life is like and an opportunity to come up with a campaign against a deadline. It will be a test of their design, writing, planning and presentation skills’

LRD will provide each team with a mentor from the account management and creative departments to guide them through the process – plus they’ll be given master classes on various elements of the task. The event is free but does have limited numbers. Students (Year 12 and up) can sign-up at LRD-thebigidea.com. It will be held from 4pm Thursday 26th until Friday 27th October 2017 at 5pm at The Digital Greenhouse.

‘This is a regular event and students have found it a useful springboard into their advertising careers and two former participants now work for top London agencies. It also means that we can identify potential staff members when we need to grow our business further.’

‘We’ll be selecting participants based on their ability to demonstrate that they’re “Big Thinkers” and have an appetite for a career in advertising. This is not just for creatives, we’re looking for planners, writers, presenters, researchers – all the skills that go to make up a successful agency.’

The deadline for applications is Monday 9th October at noon and the short-listed candidates will be notified by 12th October 2017. Those wanting to determine where they might best fit into agency life – creative, account management etc. – can also take the Big Thinker Test at LRD-thebigidea.com where they can find more details about The Big Think.
